Ratings Forming Part of an Engineering Watch

This course is designed to provide seafarers with the knowledge and practical skills required to perform duties as a rating forming part of an engineering watch in a ship’s engine department. It is intended for personnel assigned to engine-room watchkeeping duties under the supervision of engineering officers.

The training covers fundamental marine engineering principles, including basic operation of main and auxiliary machinery, monitoring of engine-room parameters, safe working practices, use of tools and equipment, and routine maintenance tasks. The course also emphasizes compliance with safety procedures, pollution prevention measures, and effective communication within the engine-room team.

Upon successful completion, participants will be competent to assist in engine-room watchkeeping operations, contribute to the safe and efficient operation of machinery, and support engineering officers in accordance with international maritime standards.
