Course Description
This course is designed to train seafarers to perform the duties and responsibilities of an Able Seafarer in the engine department, serving in a manned engine-room or designated to perform duties in a periodically unmanned engine-room, in accordance with the requirements of the STCW Convention.
The training provides advanced knowledge and practical skills related to the operation, monitoring, and maintenance of main and auxiliary machinery, including propulsion systems, electrical and mechanical equipment, pumps, and control systems. Emphasis is placed on watchkeeping duties, fault detection, routine maintenance, safety procedures, and compliance with environmental protection regulations.
The course also develops competencies in teamwork, communication, and the safe use of tools and equipment within the engine department. Upon successful completion, participants will be competent to support engineering officers, contribute to the safe and efficient operation of machinery, and carry out assigned duties in both manned and periodically unmanned engine-room operations.
